Four researchers from the Rényi Institute have been invited to the International Congress of Basic Sciences, and the scientific audience has heard the presentations of András Némethi, Gábor Tardos, Balázs Szegedy and Péter Pál Pach in recent days. The International Congress of Basic Sciences (ICBS) held in Beijing began on July 13. The organizers will bring together the world's leading scientists during the 13-day program in order to promote cooperation and exchange of experience. The congress focuses on mathematics, physics, as well as computer science and engineering, creating a platform for communication, partnership building and interdisciplinary dialogue. The event also aims to raise awareness of basic sciences and inspire the next generation of young researchers and students
The Basic Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award (BSLA) will be presented at the congress, honoring exceptional scientists whose work in basic science has been outstanding and innovative, or whose activities have brought about fundamental change in their field over the past thirty years or more. The lifetime achievement award this year was also given to Timisoara-born Professor George Lusztig (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) for his “unparalleled contributions to representation theory.” The Hungarian-speaking professor was a speaker at the Rényi Institute-wide seminar last October. The presentation can be viewed here.
