Please send applications by e-mail to young.researcher@renyi.hu, with titkar@renyi.hu cc-d, having "Pre-doc Application" in the subject line. Please send your application in a single e-mail. The complete application must be submitted as a single PDF or Word (doc) file, which should include the following:
● The applicant's CV, including their name, date of birth, address, and email address.
● A brief description (approximately 1–2 pages) of the scientific field the applicant wishes to study and their related achievements to date.
● A short scientific biography of the applicant, including a list of their scientific publications (articles, student theses), competition results, and conference participations.
● Links to the applicant’s scientific works (articles, student theses) if available online; if not, the works should be attached as separate files.
● The applicant should provide the names and contact information of two persons whom they have asked to provide a letter of recommendation.
The structure of the submitted document should follow the template available on the website. Recommenders should send their reference letter directly to young.researcher@renyi.hu before the March 31 deadline, clearly indicating the applicant’s name in the email subject line. Applicants will be informed about the decision by June 15, 2026.

Description
The HUN-REN Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics is opening applications for pre-doc grants targeting young researchers, for a fixed term, 2 year stay starting in September 2026, at the Rényi Institute.
The aim of the grant is to give an opportunity to PhD students – who have already completed their coursework, but have not defended their thesis yet – to complete and defend their dissertations. For the position we are awaiting applications from young researchers (preferably graduates of a Hungarian university) who have a degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Mathematics Education. Moreover, we require that in their mathematics PhD studies they have completed their PhD coursework.
Before the final decision is made, shortlisted applicants will have the opportunity to present their past results and the research to be carried out. These presentations are preliminarily scheduled for May 13, 2026, Wednesday. The event may also take place online, depending on the circumstances. Applicants will be informed in due time.
Researchers granted the position will receive the institute's assistant research fellow salary, which is currently HUF 625,000 gross per month. Upon successful PhD defense, the salary will be adjusted to the research fellow level, which is currently HUF 815,000 gross per month.
