Yesterday, the József Eötvös Wreath awards were presented at the opening ceremony of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' Jubilee Science Celebration 2025 program series.

In the field of mathematics, this award was awarded to Richárd Wiegandt by the Presidency of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in September in recognition of his outstanding scientific work. The posthumous award was received by the mathematician's son at the ceremony. 
According to the award, "the former Richárd Wiegandt, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, retired scientific advisor and head of department of the Alfréd Rényi Mathematical Research Institute, was honored for his outstanding research results in the field of algebra, which have been internationally highly regarded for several decades, primarily for his central role in the structure theory of rings and general radical theory, and for his school-forming work."
