Description
Erdős conjectured in 1946 that $n$ points in the plane can only have $n^{1+o(1}$ unit distances among each other. This summer OpenAI disproved this conjecture using some nontrivial amount of algebraic number theory. In the talk we plan to explain these tools and outline the construction.
