Title:  The Topology of the Space of Transversals

Abstact.   We use the topology of Grassmannian spaces to give a
cohomological characterization of when a family of compact, convex sets
admits a transversal k-plane. This together with the Lusternik-Schinirelmann
category and the colorful Helly-type theorems of Lovasz allows us to obtain
simple geometric results about transversals that until know cannot be
obtained by us only with geometric tools.
